First HIIT Run (Win)

Motivation:

Using a new timer this morning I ran for a short distance in a short amount of time.  I used the HIIT timer this morning instead of the Tabata timer, but it was still the same idea: interval training to build strength.  This was quite a challenge this morning because when I run I don't usually go from walking to full speed running, but with this work out that's what you're supposed to do.  Short bursts of high intensity mixed with short rest periods.  I did 20 seconds of full speed (high intensity) running and 10 seconds of walking with a 5 minute warm up and cool down. It was only a 13 minute work out, but it was worth it.  Usually the only time I run that fast is when I am chasing a student who took off running from the classroom or the playground. The short bursts make it easier to maintain that speed for a short time/distance.  I mean, look at my max speed below: 7:25 minutes/mile! Wow--usually my max speed is around 8 or 9 minutes. So this is also pretty awesome!

I used my phone this morning to run Endomondo and the timer app. But, I am going to have to get the timer on my ipod because it has the Tabata timer which is a little different from the HIIT timer I used this morning.  Somehow when I checked my phone while out running I must have stopped or paused my Endomondo because it did not track my whole run. But I mapped it out to get the true distance that I went and luckily double checked my watch when I got outside so I knew what time I started.

Time/Weather:
I was out the door at 05:39 this morning.  My phone's weather app said it was 81ºF outside. Yep, 81º that early in the morning.  No clouds really, a few around the horizon in the distance.  It seemed a little cooler and I was lucky enough to have a slight breeze to help keep me cool.  I knew I should have run yesterday so that today could be my rest day.

Official race pictures were posted on Facebook yesterday from Saturday's Fire Hose Fun Run.  Here are me and my mom. First picture is running past the last "soak" station.
The second one is only five seconds before crossing the finish line in record time for me!

Still waiting on official race times from Facebook or the website. I'll post it as soon as I have it!
